Allan 'Al' Lindstrom
December 06, 1928 to July 15, 2013 -
Al passed away on July 15, 2013. He was born to Emma and Alfred Lindstrom on Dec. 6, 1928, in Astoria. He attended Roosevelt High School and graduated from Oregon State University where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta. He married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Murphy, and they raised four children in southwest Portland.
Al began his career with Nabisco, worked for Willamette Valley Company in Eugene, and later for McKesson Chemical and Van Waters & Rogers in Portland until he retired in 1990. Al continued to work for Van Waters part-time, enjoying many years calling on his friends in the seafood industry.
In retirement, Al played golf at Red Tail, volunteered for the Red Cross, and was involved with high school and college groups and reunions. He was president of the Phi Gamma Delta Alumni chapter.
Al took great pride in his children and five grandchildren and cherished watching their activities and sporting events. His life was filled with many good friends who shared his passions for golf, boating, camping and skiing. He enjoyed his house at Neskowin, where he spent many years sitting on his deck conversing with all who went by. He was known as "Big Al" to all his friends.
Al was preceded in death by his son, Dr. Terry Lindstrom, who died in 1995. He is survived by, and will be greatly missed, by his wife, Dorothy; son, Steve (Carolyn); daughters, Diane (Mark) and Carol (Craig); and grandchildren, Steffi, Kelley, Jenna, Greg and Danielle.
The family held a private interment. A Celebration of Life is being planned for Al in September. Details of time and place will be provided to family and friends.
