Fred L. Hornshuh Jr.

Fred L. Hornshuh Jr. died on Dec. 8, 2013, in Eugene. He was 93 years old.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Jan. 26, at 2 p.m. in Portland Open Bible Church, 3223 S.W. 92nd Ave.

The son of Fred L. Hornshuh Sr. and Beulah Calkins Hornshuh was born on July 2, 1922, in Portland.

He graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma, Wash., and went on to study at Pacific Lutheran University, Drake University, New Hope Christian College, University of Oregon and Portland State University.

The retired pastor served in Oregon, Washington and Florida, founded Christian preschools and volunteered as a chaplain in hospitals and assisted living centers.

Survivors include Mr. Hornshuh’s wife Carol; daughter Jan Kent and her husband Jamon; daughter Charlene Simmons and her husband Gary; son Fred Hornshuh III and his wife Linda; son Mark Hornshuh; daughter Jill Crymes and her husband Rob; 13 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Lorena Odegard, Waletta Carlson and Laverna Hornshuh.
