Betty Lou Burns

February 27, 1933 to July 16, 2014 -

Betty Lou Burns, 81, of Gladstone, died in Milwaukie, Oregon on Wednesday July 16, 2014 of natural causes.

Betty, born February 27, 1933, in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, was the daughter of John and Jenny Marweg. She graduated from Renton High School in 1951. She joined the Navy and was stationed in San Francisco, California, driving Navy Staff Car and performing secretarial duties. She later moved to Renton, Washington where she met her second husband, Raymond J. Burns while she was working for Crown Zellerbach. They married on June 11, 1967, creating an instant family with her two sons from her first marriage. Ray and Betty found their permanent home and community in Gladstone, Oregon in 1969, where Betty worked as a secretary with Ray Burts Co. starting in the early 80’s, until retirement, in the late 80’s.

She was a natural homemaker that always took pride in her home and family. Betty’s passions included ceramics, needlepoint but, most of all, cooking (some say, the best potato salad ever!), dancing with her husband and holding family gatherings. She was an avid San Francisco 49ers football and NASCAR fan. She also adored taking beach trips along the Oregon Coast. Betty was a dedicated and loving mother, sister and grandmother.

She leaves in remembrance, her sons, Michael (Ingrid) McKay and Todd McKay from Oregon, her step-daughters, Patricia (Jerry) Higley, Barb (Jim) Olsen, and sister-in-law, Betsy Marweg all from Washington State; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on July 28, 2014 at 12:30 pm at Willamette National Cemetery.
