Lewis "Lee" Kingham

November 13, 1924 - March 26, 2014


KinghamLewis “Lee” Kingham, 89, a former resident of the Forest Grove community, late of the McMinnville community, passed away peacefully in his sleep early Wednesday morning, March 26, 2014 at the Wynwood of McMinnville Assisted Living Facility.

A Graveside Service has been held at the Forest View Cemetery, 1161 W. Pacific Avenue in Forest Grove.

LEWIS “LEE” KINGHAM was born on November 13, 1924 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the son of the late Lewis and Oma (Batts) Kingham. He was raised and received his education in Milliken, Colorado, having been a graduate with the Milliken High School Class of 1942.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II, having served from May of 1943 to March of 1946, when he received his honorable discharge at the rank of Signalman 3rd Class. Upon his discharge he attended Colorado State College of Education in Greeley, Colorado where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Education. He later attended Oregon State University in Corvallis, where he received his Master’s degree in Math in 1970.

He was united in marriage to Ramona Jean Knox on December 21, 1947 in Greeley, Colorado. Following their marriage they made their home in the communities of Milliken, Peetz and Haxton, Colorado. In 1958, they moved to Coquille, Oregon where they resided for eleven years until 1969 when they moved to the Forest Grove community. They made their home in Forest Grove for thirty-six years until 2005 when they moved to the McMinnville community, where he had resided since.

Lee was preceded in death by his wife, Ramona on June 8, 2008 after celebrating over sixty years of marriage together.

His lifetime career in education as a math teacher and coach in football and basketball was well over thirty-six years. Lee taught and coached in high schools in Milliken, Peetez and Haxton, Colorado. After moving to Oregon he worked at Coquille High School, from 1958 to 1969 and from 1969 to 1986 at the Forest Grove High School, where he retired.

Lee had attended the Forest Grove United Methodist Church and was a member of the Forest Grove Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. #2440.

Among his special interests, he enjoyed golfing, fishing and gardening.

Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Oma Kingham. His sister, Viola Chandler and his granddaughter, Nina Ritchie.

Survivors include his four children and their spouses, Laura and Don Christensen, of McMinnville, Oregon; Claudia Kingham, of Portland, Oregon; Steve “Bear” and Susan Kingham, of Forest Grove, Oregon and Deanna Fleming, of McMinnville, Oregon; his sister, Emma Windnagle, of Longmont, Colorado and his brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Chris Kingham, of Johnstown, Colorado.

Also surviving are his eleven grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

The family suggests that remembrances may be contributions to Forest Grove High School Booster Club c/o Forest Grove High School Athletic Office, in his memory.
