Viola “June” Skipper

June 4, 1929-Sept. 20, 2013

Longtime East County resident Viola “June” Skipper died Friday, Sept. 20. She was 84.

A celebration of life will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Damascus Community Church, with a viewing at 11 a.m. A reception will follow.

June was born June 4, 1929, in Nebraska to Ralph and Viola Masten. After the family moved to Gresham, June married the love of her life, Tommy Skipper, on Feb. 20, 1947.

The Skippers committed their lives to their faith, spending many years as missionaries in Central America and Spain. They returned to the Gresham area in the mid-1980s.

A member of Damascus Community Church, June loved singing, studying the Bible and worship.

June is survived by her husband; sister, Celia Church; son, Tim Skipper; two grandsons; a large extended family; and hundreds of dear friends.

James Hoque Wagner

Jan. 23, 1927-Sept. 18, 2013

Gresham resident James Hoque Wagner died Wednesday, Sept. 18, in Portland. He was 86.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 26, in the reception room at Gresham Memorial Chapel.

Jim was born Jan. 23, 1927, in Prescott, Ariz., the son of Louis and Jeannette (Hoque) Wagner.

Raised and educated in Arizona, Jim served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1947.

On July 23, 1949, Jim married Carita Myers in Portland. The couple settled in Gresham in 1995.

Jim continued his education at Mt. Hood Community College, receiving his vocational teacher of education associate degree.

He worked as an electrician, owned and operated Wagner’s Landscape Service and had been the department head for horticulture at Mt. Hood Community College.

Jim is survived by his wife; sons, Bret and Deen Wagner; daughter, Tamzyn Wagner; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Gresham Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Kjelland “Chuck” Snuggerud

Oct. 23, 1944-Sept. 19, 2013

East County resident Kjelland “Chuck” Snuggerud died Thursday, Sept. 19. He was 68.

A committal service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3, at Willamette National Cemetery.

Bateman Carroll Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Martin J. “Marty” Hietpas

April 30, 1919-Sept. 21, 2013

Gresham resident Martin J. “Marty” Hietpas died Saturday, Sept. 21. He was 94.

A scriptural rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at Gresham Memorial Chapel

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, at St. Henry Catholic Church, 346 N.W. First St. in Gresham.
