Mary Evelyn Smith

Gresham resident Mary Evelyn Smith died Sunday, Oct. 13. She was 88.

A celebration of life will be held from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at her home.

Mary was born Nov. 14, 1924, in Kansas. She graduated from nurse’s training in 1946 and married Clyde Nicholson on Jan. 12, 1947. Mary worked at Providence Hospital for 35 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband and great-grandson. Mary is survived by her daughters, Evelyn Johannesen and Debra Mcdevitt; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Melvin J. Linn

May 1, 1937-Oct. 14, 2013

Melvin J. Linn of Boring died Monday, Oct. 14. He was 76.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at Mountain View Golf Club in Boring.

Melvin was born May 1, 1937, in Lubbock, Texas, to Thomas and Enith Linn.

Melvin attended Analy High School in Sebastapol, Calif., and received an associate’s degree in business. He lived in the Gresham and Boring area for more than 40 years.

On March 10, 1962, Melvin married Mary Lee Skofstad. He worked as an engineer and marine repair business owner.

Melvin belonged to the Gresham Rotary and mentored many high school and college students who worked in his business over the years.

His wife preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughters, Caren Doyle, Tamara Palmer, Wendy McLeod and Debra Guthery; and six grandchildren.

James A. Lunos

Sept. 8, 1939-Oct. 15, 2013

Longtime East County resident James A. Lunos died Tuesday, Oct. 15, with his family by his side. He was 74.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, at Savage Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1740 S.E. 139th Ave., Portland.

Jim was born Sept. 8, 1939, in Crookston, M.N., to Carl and Mabel (Stortroen) Lunos.

Jim graduated from Warroad High School in 1957. He married Frances Gallant in 1959 and worked for Weyerhaeuser Paper Company, retiring in 1998.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Julie Newton and Janelle Fisher; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; brother, Leland Lunos; and many nieces and nephews.

Memorials can be made to Savage Memorial Presbyterian Church or Linfield College football program.

Suzanne Louise (Beaumont) Woodbury

June 20, 1962-Oct. 11, 2013

Gresham resident Suzanne Louise (Beaumont) Woodbury died Friday, Oct. 11, in an accidental drowning at her home. She was 51.

An informal memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, at Peake Funeral Chapel, 1925 S.E. Scott St., Milwaukie.

Suzanne was born June 20, 1962, in San Diego to Wally Beaumont and Jill McManus.

Suzanne was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Woodbury; parents, Wally Beaumont and Jill McManus, and stepfather, Dean McManus.

She is survived by her sister, Carol LeBlanc; brothers, Craig Beaumont and Keith Beaumont; her closest friend, Bill Carroll; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Troutdale resident Joan L. Lebahn died Thursday, Oct. 10. She was 70.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
