August Duane Gus Roberts

August 'Gus' RobertsAugust Duane “Gus” Roberts, 69, died peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix, Ariz., following a brief illness. He was a loving husband and father and was surrounded by his family at the time of his death.

 He was born on April 5, 1944, in Kalispell, Mont., to Billie Roberts and Elaine (Viano) Roberts.

 After graduating from Kalispell High School in 1962, he attended Eastern Washington University, graduating with a bachelor's degree in English and history. He met his wife, Linda O’Brien, in Kalispell and they were married in 1965.

After graduating from Eastern Washington University, he attended the University of Oregon and pursued his master’s degree in education.  He worked at School District 509-J in Madras for 30 years, before retiring in 1998.  

He was an English teacher, librarian and information technology manager. He was instrumental in bringing Internet services to the community during the 1990s and ensured that the students had the best possible computer equipment to meet their educational needs. 

Gus had many interests. He painted many wildlife pictures as well as designed and made jewelry. He was a licensed HAM radio operator and enjoyed talking to his friends on the radio. He loved landscaping his property and tending his garden. 

He leaves his wife of 48 years, Linda (O’Brien) Roberts; his daughter, Michelle (Roberts) Tschanz and her husband, Joe Tschanz; his brother Gary Roberts; his sister Diane Groh; his sister Leigh Kubik; his grandson Paul Tschanz; and many nieces, nephews and close friends.

With the wishes of Gus, there will be no funeral services at this time.  A private memorial will be scheduled for a later date.
