Allene Beth Silva

January 15, 1939 - September 12, 2013-

Allene SilvaMadras resident Allene Beth Silva passed away Sept.12, 2013, peacefully at her home after a long battle with cancer.  A celebration of her life will be held at the Jefferson County Senior Center at 860 S.W. Madison, from 1-3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 12, and everyone is welcome to come share memories. Allene was born on Jan. 15, 1939, in McKees Rocks, Pa., to parents Albert and Elizabeth Comers. She lived there until marrying Harry Hawkins on May 23, 1959. They moved to Oregon to join Harry's family. Her parents and sister followed shortly after, and they all then made Oregon their home. Allene and Harry had two daughters, Kimberly and Tammy. They lost Kimberly on May 20, 1983. Allene married Larry Silva on Aug. 26, 1987, and continued to live in Madras enjoying a 30-year career at the Madras Pioneer. She made several lifetime friends in the many years she worked there. Allene was known for her wonderful sense of humor, beautiful outlook on life and joyful infectious laugh. She was an avid reader and a wonderful artist.

Throughout her life, some of her greatest joys were spending time with her daughter and watching her grandchildren participate in all their activities, dance recitals, 4-H, horse events and sporting events. She also greatly enjoyed trips to the coast with her husband to visit family.

After retirement, she enjoyed spending long hours painting beautiful pictures that she shared with family and friends. Her capacity for kindness was limitless. She had a special place in her heart for homeless cats and took care of any that needed her. In the last two years, as her health was declining, she was able to attend her oldest granddaughter's wedding and recently held her first great-grandson. She watched her grandson grow into a wonderful and caring person like herself, and attended her youngest granddaughter's high school graduation and sent her off to her first year of college. Allene is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Dorel Ellenburg; sister and brother-in-law, Margie and Don Moe; husband, Larry Silva and stepchildren, Jennie, Jamie and Terry; grandchildren, Courtney and her husband Kellan Smith, Jed Ellenburg, and Taylor Ellenburg; step-grandchildren, Jasmine and Jada; great-grandchild, Forrest Smith; nieces and nephews, Cindy Fisher, Vickie Rowan, Jackie and Lenny Hawkins, Wayne, Rodney and Gary Marshall, and Lisa Kathrein. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kimberly Hawkins, and her parents Albert and Elizabeth Comers.

The family would love for any memorial donations to be given to the Jefferson County Library.
