Michael "Mitch" Howe

April 13, 1943 - October 6, 2013-

Michael “Mitch” Howe, 70, of Lebanon, passed away Oct. 6, 2013, at the Samaritan Evergreen Hospice House in Albany.

He was born April 13, 1943 in Temple, Texas, to Randolph and Maxine (Wallace) Howe.

Mitch grew up in Madras and graduated from high school there. He then attended college for a couple of years in Salem. He joined the Air Force in 1963 and served for four years. After his honorable discharge in 1967, Mitch returned to Oregon. He married Eva Smith on July 7, 1982, in Reno, Nev.

He had been employed in several lines of work until 1982, when he found his true calling as a criminal defense investigator. He eventually had his own office in Corvallis until retiring in September of 2012.

Mitch was a member of the Lebanon Elks Lodge, the Oregon Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, and the American Legion Santiam Post No. 51 in Lebanon. He also was a member of the Albany Rifle and Pistol Club. He loved hunting and fishing and also enjoyed shooting and reloading ammunition.

Mitch is survived by his wife Eva Howe of Lebanon; children Christine Falconer and her husband Jeff of Sweet Home, Melissa Castle and her husband Buck of Cornelius, and Keith Smith of Sweet Home; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his son Gary Howe and his parents.

A celebration of Mitch’s life will be held on Friday, Oct. 25, from 1-3 p.m., at the American Legion Santiam Post No. 51 in Lebanon.
