Curly Alps

February 24, 1925 - December 27, 2013-


     Curly Alps, age 88 of Madras, OR died December 27, 2013.

     He was born February 24, 1925 to John Calvin and Bessie Alps in Colorado.  Curly went into the United States Navy at age 16 and was stationed on the USS Steamer Bay.

     He had a life-long love for rodeo and was an honorary member of the Madras Chapter of FFA. Curly lived his life around caring for his livestock. For many years, Curly, Marilyn and family put on jackpot rodeos and provided stock contracting services to many rodeos. He enjoyed breaking horses, roping, and carrying on the heritage of the western lifestyle.

     Curly was preceded in death by both of his parents, his wife Marilyn, and sisters Geneva Mackey, Roena Armstrong, Lavon Sapp and Leevonia (Benson) Casteel and brother George Alps.

     He is survived by his two sisters, Juanita Abbott of Kelso, WA.; and Arvilla Gaub of Longview, WA.; sons, Howard Tekansik and wife Cindy of Kremmling, CO.; Charles and wife Ann of  Rocky Ford, CO.; Calvin Alps of Sandy, OR.; John and wife Debi , Mike and wife Amanda all of Culver, OR.; daughters Lynn Alps of Madras; Verleen Hopper and husband  Terry of Spring, TX.; and Johna Lou Steffens of Palisade, CO.

     His grandchildren include Aleta Meeker, Justin Alps, Darren Alps, Jared Alps, Rick Steffen, Raini Steffen, Shannon Sabdos, Trena Rule, Travis Tekansik, Chaz Tekansik and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

     He will be missed by many, especially his family. A celebration of life will be held at a later date so family and friends can travel.
