Eugene (Gene) Jelinek
July 15, 1940 to February 18, 2014
Eugene (Gene) William Jelinek was born in Portland Oregon to Charles (Chuck) Francis Jelinek and Wilda (Billie) Lorraine (Broughton) Jelinek. He had three brothers, David, James and Jack and one sister, Carol (Bozich). Gene graduated from David Douglas High School in 1958. He worked in retail management and warehouse distribution and spent over 35 years with Fred Meyer in Portland Oregon.
Gene married Elaine Marlene Lewis of The Dalles Oregon on February 4, 1962. They spent 52 wonderful years as husband and wife. Their 50th wedding anniversary party was a highlight of those years, and a tribute to the great couple they had become. Gene and Elaine celebrated this special occasion surrounded by 200 family members and friends.
Gene and Elaine had four children; Kimberly (Nick) Evans, Tina (Jason) Cawthorn, Shawn (Brian) Pirtz & Christopher (Laura) Jelinek. You could always count on them to be involved and cheering on their children and grandchildren in whatever their endeavors were. These events were a large part of their life. Genes legacy will live on in his eight beloved grandchildren; Danica, Cody, Colby, Miranda, Nicholas, Brookelin, Austin and Taran, and two great grandchildren.
After many years of struggling with several health issues, Gene passed away peacefully at home, in Welches Oregon, with his devoted wife at his side. He fought a long and hard battle to spend as much time as he possibly could with the family he treasured so much.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be sent in his honor to Donate Life Northwest
(www.donatelifenw.org) or The American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org).
