Irving F. Kurz died peacefully on Monday, May 19, 2014.
Irving was born on May 26, 1920, to Elmer and Lena Garnjobst Kurz in Salem, Oregon.
Irving served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Afterward, he married his high school sweetheart, Ellen Waldorf. They lived in Bremerton, Washington, where he worked as a machinist in the Navy Yard.
Irving and Ellen had two children. They raised their family in the rural Burlington, Oregon, area.
He retired from the Army Corp of Engineers in Portland at the age of 53.
Irving loved life and had many activities and hobbies. One of his favorite pastimes was flying the single-seat (RV-4) airplane he had built in his shop and kept at Scappoose Airport.
Irving is survived by his son and caregiver, Stan Kurz of Burlington; his daughter, Vivian, and son-in-law, Larry Ward; three grandchildren, Dustin Ward, Harmony Givens, and Christopher Ward; and two great-grandsons, all who reside in south Columbia County.
His family is grateful that he had trusted in Jesus for eternal life.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 14, at 7 p.m., at Warren Baptist Church.
