by: SUBMITTED - Clary A. McCarthyClary A. McCarthy died on Sept. 25 in Maryville Nursing Home in Beaverton. She was 90 years old.

The daughter of Thor Reinhold Lofgren and Gudren Lofgren, she was born on March 2, 1923, in Waterbury, Conn., and grew up in Chicago. On Sept. 25, 1948, she married Lawrence E. McCarthy, exactly 65 years before the date of her death. Her husband preceded her in death on Aug. 18. 2011.

After starting their family in 1949 in Southern California, Tigard Oregon became their home in 1996.

They had three children: Craig Lawrence, deceased; Patricia A. Herst; and Robert James McCarthy.

Mrs. McCarthy was a stay-at-home mom while the children were growing up. She had many friends in her neighborhood who were also stay-at-home moms, all were very close and still remain friends. She lived in the same house on Morning Avenue in Downey, Calif., for 43 years. She was very active in St. Raymond’s Catholic Church--Circle 10 for most of those years.

She is also survived by grandchildren Jay Lawrence Herst, Jana Lauren McCarthy-Roth and Erica Denise McCarthy, Casey Aaron McCarthy, and Amy Rene McCarthy; and she became great-grandmother to newborn Parker Lawrence Steiner. Also surviving are siblings Marion Johns, Thor Lofgren, Robert Lofgren and Fred Lofgren.

A wonderful mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and most of all, wife, Clary A. McCarthy was a wonderful cook, homemaker and caregiver. One cannot ever remember her raising her voice to anyone and she did not have an enemy in the world. She was very much loved by everyone and is missed so very much.

A graveside service was held at St. Anthony Cemetery on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Arrangements were in the care of Young’s Funeral Home.
