Roy E. Kaufman
March 8, 1928 to August 3, 2014
Roy E. Kaufman, age 86, passed away peacefully on Aug. 3, 2014 at his home in Oregon City. He was born on March 8, 1928 to Clarence E. Kaufman and Mary A. Kaufman in Guide Rock, Neb. He was raised in The Dalles, Ore. until at age 17 when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving as a Seabee during World War II. Upon his discharge from the service he taught plumbing and pipe fitting at Purdue University for seven years. He then took up the trade as a pipe-fitter for the rest of his career, retiring in 1990.
He married Delores L. Pitzner in 1949 and the couple had two daughters. They were married for 38 years before she passed away. He married Catherine M. Calzada in 1987. They resided in Wilsonville, Ore. until 2007, when they moved to Oregon City. They have been married for 28 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; brothers Paul, Irv and Clarence and sister Wilma, and step-grandson, Zachary.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine; daughters Andrea Spencer and Janylin Hill; step-daughters and their spouses Linda and Randy Martinez, Susan George and Jodi and Hank Bananto; brother and sister-in-law Larry and Gail Kaufman; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday Aug. 16 at the Oregon City Christian Church, 1179 South End Road, Oregon City, Ore.
