Lois Mae Hamberger

Lois Mae Hamberger, 81 of Woodburn, died September 21, 2013 at her home with family. She was born in New Jersey to Aurelius and Evelyn Ortiz.
She and her younger sister were raised in Elmira, New York. In high school she was voted captain of the cheerleader team and a member of the Kappa Epsilon Sorority. Following Graduation, she met and married George Carl Hamberger on September 22, 1951.
After a season of homemaking and raising children, she graduated from Chemeketa Community college in 1971 with her Practical Nursing License. She began her career as an LPN in Mt. Angel at Benedictine Nursing Home. In 1975, she and George moved to Prineville, Oregon where she worked at the local hospital and nursing home until 1985 when they returned to the Willamette Valley for retirement. She was a volunteer for Meals-On-Wheels in Molalla and later for the Woodburn School District as a volunteer reading assistant. She was an active member of the senior group at Mid-Valley Community Church.
Lois loved visits with her six children and sixteen grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, walking and trips to the beach.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 53 years.
She is survived by her sister, Joan Falzone of Los Angeles, her children Steve of Redmond, Doug of Woodburn, Jim of Milwaukie, Jesse of Woodburn, and daughters Amy Peterman of Oregon City and Kate Yakis of Woodburn.
A Memorial service will be held on Friday September 27th at 11 a.m. at Mid- Valley Community Church in Woodburn.
