Donald Lyle Hill

August 15, 1936 - April 29, 2014

It is with deep and heavy sadness that we announce the death of Donald Hill, who passed April 29, peacefully at home in Portland. Don was born at the Hubbard Hospital Aug. 15, 1936 to Lyle and Verna (Smith) Hill. He spent his youth growing up in Hubbard where the family operated Hill’s Gas & Grocery on 99E. He was part of the first freshman class at the new North Marion High School, graduating in 1954. A friend to everyone he met, Don loved to laugh and tell jokes. He enjoyed the outdoors, camping, cooking for large groups and spent a lifetime playing the piano and organ. Spending time with his family was always special to him. Don is survived by his wife of 35 years, Susan (Matthies) of Portland, daughter Janet (Monty) LeBlanc of Camas, Wash., son Michael (Kimberlee) Hill of San Francisco, Calif., step-daughters Debbie (Tad) Davis of St. Helens, and Karen Biggs of San Diego, Calif. He is also survived by his sister Dolores (Dave) Stubblefield; nephews Douglas and Dennis; nine grandchildren Brittany, Gaelen, Devin, Cierra, Keelie, Shelby, Ben, Zachary and Susanna; and one great-granddaughter, Julia. A celebration of life gathering will be held on May 17 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Hubbard Fire Hall. Don is interred at the Belle Passi Cemetery.
