Jessie Marie Wells

1918 - 2014


by: SUBMITTED PHOTO - Jessie Marie WellsLong time Molalla Ore. resident Marie Crompton Wells passed away on March 31, 2014, at the age of 95.

She was in her apartment at Pheasant Pointe and enjoyed having her family and friends around her during the final weeks. Marie was born on May 28, 1918, in Wetonka, S.C., moving to the Molalla area at age 10. She graduated from Molalla Union High School in 1936 and married George (Gib) Wells on June 12, 1937. George preceded her in death on May 23, 1996.

Marie grew up near Mulino, lived on a farm near Marquam, Oregon during the 1950’s, and moved into Molalla during the 1960’s. Marie worked in the Kaiser shipyards during WW II as a welder, and for a short time in the Molalla School district. Marie was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Molalla Chapter, enjoying both the Buckeroo Parades and the VFW pancake breakfasts. She was also active in the school PTA, 4-H and many other local organizations when her children were at home. She belonged to the Molalla Christian Church and enjoyed helping out at Camp Winema on the Oregon coast. Marie enjoyed her friends at painting classes and TOPS.

She is survived by daughter Madeline and son-in-law Ron Philpot, son Rodney and daughter-in-law Judy Wells, seven grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters and brothers-in- law in the Wells family tree and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their families in the Crompton family tree. Marie was an expert at keeping the families current on the family trees and many enjoy using the material provided by Marie.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Marie on May 18, 2014 at 3 p.m. at the Molalla Christian Church, 223 East Third Street, Molalla, Ore. She will be interred at Willamette National Cemetery on May 19, 2014.

The Wells family would like to thank the staff at Pheasant Pointe for their excellent care of Marie during her final days. Memorials may be made to the Molalla Christian Church or the charity of your choice in memory of Marie.
