David Stuart Savory
Feb. 21, 1924 - Aug. 21, 2013
David Savory was born in New York, New York, to John and Florence Savory on February 21, 1924. He was the fourth out of six children. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, John, George, Paul, and Mary. He spent his childhood in Atchison, Kansas.
David served in the Air Force from 1942 to 1945 in the European Theater during WWII. After the war, he attended the University of Kansas and graduated as an accountant. He married the girl next door, Mary Murphy, on September 3, 1948. David and Mary started their family and spent their first married years in Missouri. They moved to Oregon where, in March of 1967, David and Mary founded Southwest Office Supply. As patriarch of the company, David encouraged and hoped his children would take over the business, which has become a reality and has made him extremely proud.
He leaves behind his beloved wife, Mary; his children John (Winnie), Cathy Kelsay (Doug), Debbie Montoya (Jim), Paul (Pam), and Philip (Carolyne); and his brother Philip (Diana). He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
We will all miss his sense of humor and his words of wisdom. He will always be as Good as Gold in our hearts.
A memorial service will be held at the Sunnyside Little Chapel of the Chimes on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at 3:00 p.m.
