Bethel F. Stroup

Warren resident Bethel Faye Stroup, who has ties to the community, died Sept. 26, 2013 from sepsis in Longview, Wash. She was 97.

She was born Dec. 30, 1915, to Benjamen and Myrtle (Brown) Blair in Lincoln, Neb.

On Oct. 9, 1937 she married Wilbur Stroup in Lincoln, Neb. He preceded her in death in April 1995.

She graduated from Phagen’s Beauty School in Portland in 1968 and worked as a beautician and seamstress.

Survivors include: sons Jim Stroup, and David Stroup, of Newberg, brother Benjamin Blair Jr.; sisters Doris Parrott and Margaret Parrot; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by brother Arlis Blair; sisters Roberta Bird and Muriel Hatting-Vorhees and her parents.

A memorial will be held 1 p.m. Oct. 12 at Family Life Church, 502 St. Paul Highway.

Doris Sprecher Irvin

Newberg resident Doris Ida Sprecher Irvin died Sept. 1, 2013, from complications from surgery. She was 83.

She was born Jan. 2, 1930, to Robert and Ida Sprecher in New Leipzig, N.D.

She worked for more than 30 years as a quality control inspector for General Motors before retiring.

Survivors include: Sisters Helen Cardwell, of Tigard, Ruby Baldwin of Newberg, and Carolyn Lacy of King City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Irvin; her parents; sisters Emma Brown, Alice Cardwell, Mabel Brown and Lenora Cardwell; and brothers Bob Sprecher and Ken Sprecher.

A memorial service was held Sept. 14.
