Fred L. Hornshuh, Jr.

Eugene resident Fred L. Hornshuh Jr., who has ties to Newberg, died Dec. 8, 2013. He was 91.
He was born July 2, 1922, to Fred and Beulah (Calkins) Hornshuh in Portland.
On Dec. 5, 1944, he married Carol McClintic in Portland.
He attended Pacific Lutheran University, Drake University, New Hope Christian College, University of Oregon and Portland State University. He pastored in Oregon, Washington and Florida, and founded Christian preschools in Oregon, Washington, California and Illinois, including the Newberg Open Bible Church preschool more than 20 years ago.
Survivors include: wife Carol, of Eugene; daughters Jan Kent, of Springfield, Charlene Simmons, of North Plains, and Jill Crymes, of Junction City; sons Fred III, of Tacoma, Wash., and Mark, of Banks; 13 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Lorena Odegard, Walette Carlson and Laverna Hornshuh.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 26 at the Portland Open Bible Church.
