Raymond P. Hartson
Raymond P. Hartson, 86, died Sept. 5, 2013, in Canby.
He was born, March 28, 1927, and lived in a Portland orphanage until he was 4 and was adopted by Harry and Emma Hartson, of Forest Grove.
He attended Jedmore Elementary School in Glenwood, graduated from Forest Grove Union High School in 1946 and attended Pacific University two years.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952, with the rank of corporal. He worked in the hospital kitchen in Fort Ord, Calif.
On Sept. 12, 1953, he married Maxine VanMeltebeke at the United Methodist Church in Hillsboro where they lived until moving to Forest Grove in 1987.
He worked for the Oregon Department of Forestry and the city of Hillsboro, retiring in 1983 as the water department supervisor. He then worked several years for the Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home in Forest Grove.
He was a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church where he sang in the choir. He was a member of the Hillsboro Elks Lodge 1862 and volunteered seven years for Tualaity Healthcare. He enjoyed reading and playing music.
Survivors include his daughter, Linda Rae, of Canby; brother, James Garley, of Portland; sister, Jeanne Reed, of Reno, Nev., and two grandchildren.
His wife, two sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.
Graveside services with military honors will be held Wednesday, Sept. 11, at 11 a.m. at the Forest View Cemetery in Forest Grove, with the Rev. Jeff Meeuwsen, officiating.
