Nick was born on August 22, 1990 to Jerry and April Van Tassel. Nick also has a twin sister named Elyse.

Nick spent the first 2 years of his life living in Aurora in the Butteville area. In 1992 the family moved to Canby. In 1995 Nick and Elyse started their school life at Trost Elementary. While Nick was in grade school he did a lot of sports. Soccer, Football, Baseball, but his favorite sport was Basketball. He participated in Canby Kids sports. When he was in grade school, Trost had a track club during recess and Nick’s goal was to be the fastest runner in school. That is where his love of running came to be.

Nick spent one year at Lee Elementary for 6th grade. For junior high, Nick went to Ackerman Middle School. He excelled at Math. He was also a cross country runner and did basketball. He was a member of New Life Four Square Church. He then spent 4 years at Canby High where he ran cross country his freshman and sophomore year and went to state both years. He also played trombone for 2 years. When he was a junior, he played Tennis. He was on the tennis team for 2 years. He was also a member of the Honor Society.

He graduated from Canby High School June 2008. He then spent the next 5 years going to Oregon State University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Recreational Resource Management with a minor in Criminal Justice. In the year 2010, he started working for the OSU Foundation in the call center. He worked his way up to supervisor position where he was in charge of over 55 employees. He loved the job so much he wanted to make it his life’s work.

While going to OSU he met Rebecca “Becca” Halleck who would become his wife on July 27, 2013. They went together for 2 years before they were married in a beautiful wedding in Salem, OR.

Nick died unexpectedly in his sleep on August 20, 2 days before his 23rd birthday. He had only been married for 24 days, but they were the happiest 24 days of his life. Becca was his friend, confidante, soul mate and the Love Of His Life.

Nicks dream was for the Oregon State Beavers, Portland Trailblazers and the Denver Broncos to all go to the playoffs this season. Nick was a dedicated sports fan to his teams.

Nick is survived by his parents, sister, wife, grandmas, aunts, uncles, cousins, and his new wonderful family, the Halleck’s.

He will be terribly missed by all who loved him. But he was so incredibly happy in his life with Becca and their tons of friends. GO BEAVS.
