Roscoe LeRoy Baptiste

May 9, 1929 - October 16, 2013


Roscoe “Rocky” LeRoy Baptiste, 84, died Oct. 16, 2013, at his home in Gervais.

He was born May 9, 1929, in Pawhuska, Okla., to Rose and Joseph Baptiste. He was a member of the Potawatomi tribe.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War until 1953 and held rank of driver petty officer 3rd class.

On March 17, 1951, he married Maxine Reid in Toledo.

He was a greenskeeper on local golf courses, and a foreman for the Millwrights. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, target shooting, gunsmithing and golfing. He enjoyed old western and war movies.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Regina Story, Ramona Kruger and Becky Davidson; sons, Joseph and Steve; 12 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Sunday, Nov. 3, at 1 p.m. at St. Louis Hall in Gervais. Private burial with military honors will be held at Willamette National Cemetery.
