Gregory Scott Hulbert

Gregory Scott HulbertBorn March 26, 1950, in Portland, Ore., Gregory Scott Hulbert died April 13, 2014, following a short battle with cancer. He was 64.

He joined his parents, Ralph and Mildred and three sisters at their home attached to Hulbert’s Flowers, and grew up watching customers from his playpen. He graduated from Canby High School in 1968.

Following his stint in the U.S. Army, he began work in the flower business himself and will be ­remembered by many at Portland Nursery for his horticultural knowledge. Over the years he was asked to be a guest speaker at garden club ­meetings, and appeared on TV as an authority on horticulture. He also was known for his amazing knowledge of history.

He is survived by his son, Colin; his daughter Courtney and Ivan Bloomquist and their children, Ellah and Griffin, all of Portland; sisters, Nola Rae Hovland, Roma Kae Eby and Bonnie Hansen; stepsister Barbara Menkel, all of Canby; nine nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.

There will be an open house at Hulbert’s ­Flowers in remembrance of Greg’s life on Sunday, May 18, from 3 to 5 p.m.
