James Patrick Brands was born on January 13, 1953 in Portland, the 5th child of Dwane and Marion Brands. He died on June 20, 2014 at his home in Canby. Jim grew up in NE Portland, attending Madeleine Grade School and Central Catholic High School where he was a scholar-athlete. Jim worked in the energy conservation business for 35 years, including employment with Pacific Power, NWPPA, and PGE. He worked at the Canby Utility Board for 14 years from 1981-1995. He very much enjoyed working in the community in which he lived, meeting people and working to improve their lives and the community through energy conservation work. Jims final energy conservation work was with a company he helped found: Efficiency Services Group, LLC. He worked there until the time of his death.
Jim married Jennifer Hensley in 1980 and they had 2 sons. He lived in Canby from 1981 to the present, actively involved in his church, and coaching in youth sports during the years his boys were growing up. Jim was a life-long golfer and enjoyed hiking, walking, travelling, and music. He is survived by his wife and sons, Peter and Dennis.
A memorial service celebrating Jims life will be held at Canby Alliance Church on Wednesday, June 25th at 3 PM. Donations may be made to The Canby Center.
