Donald L. Hanna

May 26, 1927 - September 29, 2013

Donald L. Hanna, a Powell Butte resident passed away on Sept. 29, 2013 in Prineville. He was 86.

He was born in Portland, Ore. on May 26, 1927 to Chas and Rosamond Hanna. The family moved around quite a bit when Don was growing up. He graduated from Lowell High School in 1944, then he served our country in the Navy.

Don’s career started working in the woods as a cat skinner, and later went into law enforcement. He worked for the Eugene city police as a detective and later as a Oregon State Police game officer, and eventually being Sheriff of Crook County. He then retired to run his ranch in Powell Butte.

Don married the love of his life, Leona Blower at Northwest Christian College in Eugene in 1949. The couple are members of the Prineville Christian Church.

Don was a talented fiddle player, and won the Oregon State Fiddle Championship in 1997. He was also a member of the Old Time Fiddlers Association.

Besides fiddle playing, Don loved the outdoors and loved fishing and deer and elk hunting.

Don leaves behind his loving wife of 64 years, Leona Hanna of Powell Butte, Ore; sons, Glenn (Amy) Hanna of Powell Butte, Ore. and Bob (Julie) Hanna of Kaiser, Ore; his daughter Debbie (Frank) Loyd of Astoria, Ore.; 7 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren with one on the way.

There will be a memorial service for Don at Prineville Christian Church on Monday, Oct. 7, 2013 at 2 p.m.
