Frank E. Smith Jr

Frank E. Smith Jr. (Franko), 57, of Tacoma passed away on Oct. 2, 2013.

He was born on March 19, 1956 in Tacoma to Frank and Eunice (Williamson) Smith.

He graduated from Crook County High School in Prineville, Ore. in 1974 before working at the Central Oregonian newspaper and the Ochoco Mill in Prineville.

He was known for his drumming skills, bow hunting, and traveling (including a summer spent in Europe as a young man). He played drums in a band for many years, and when his multiple sclerosis became more severe, his son learned to play.

Franko will be missed by all, and will be remembered as always smiling. Besides his father, Frank Smith of Prineville, he is survived by his sons, Derek S. (Lyndsay) Smith or Redmond, Ore. and Brandon Tyler Smith of Portland, Ore.; sisters, Vicki (Edward) Steele of Tacoma, Wash. and Jeanne M. Ripley of Kingman, Ariz.; four grandchildren; three nieces and numerous great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Eunice Smith.

There will a celebration of his life on Monday, Oct. 14, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home in Sumner, Wash.

A Celebration of Life will also be held at The Church of the Nazarene in Prineville, Ore. on Friday, Oct. 25, 2013 at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in his memory to the MS Society.
