Roger Lent

April 15, 1943 ~ January 3, 2014


Roger John Lent, 70, passed away Jan. 3, 2014 in Bend, Ore. A memorial service will be held at a future date.

Roger was born in Oregon City, Ore. on April 15, 1943 to John and Mabel Hepler Lent. He attended schools in Prineville and graduated from Crook County High School in 1961. He was the senior class president. He attended the University of Oregon and received a bachelor degree in accounting in 1965. After graduating from college he served in the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1969.

He married Joyce Hyatt shortly after being discharged from the military. He went to work for the State of Oregon in 1970 in the Unemployment Insurance Tax Department until May 1997. He was incapacitated by a stroke in 1997 but with courage and boundless humor he survived for nearly 17 years. His enthusiasm for life while in difficult circumstances was an inspiration for every one that knew him.

He was an avid University of Oregon football fan and witnessed the program changing interception by Kenny Wheaton that propelled the Ducks to the 1995 Rose Bowl and attended the Rose Bowl game.

He is survived by his brother Robert of Houston, Texas, brother Steve of Powell Butte and stepsons Larry and Randy Hyatt both of Salem. Roger was preceded in death by his parents.
