Priscilla Pat Hanawalt

March 25, 1918 to Oct. 31, 2013


Priscilla “Pat” Webber Hanawalt, 95, died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at Markham House Senior Center, Portland, after a long struggle with age related dementia.

She was born in Salem, Mass., to Alice Bates Edwards Webber and Harry Endicott Webber. Pat moved from Salem to Seattle in the mid-1930s with her brother Carl and his wife Catherine. She attended the University of Washington where she met her husband-to-be Clare Hanawalt and earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology. They married in June 1941. She worked for the war administration in Seattle during WWII. After starting a family in Seattle, she moved to Portland in 1956, where her husband worked for KGW-TV. Later they moved to Lake Oswego. She began working for Reed College in 1959. Pat worked at Reed College for 24 years, the last 12 as dean of students, retiring in 1983.

She is survived by her two children, Alan Hanawalt (Barbara) and Janet; four grandchildren, Joel (Emily), Gus, Marie and Johnathan Griffin and two great-grandchildren, Kawai and Alexandra.

A service is scheduled for 3 p.m. March 23, 2014 at Rose Schnitzer’s May Livingroom.
