Rodger Michael Hepburn

by: SUBMITTED - HepburnRodger Michael Hepburn was born on January 7, 1964 in Seattle, WA. He was the only son of Gary and Nell Hepburn. Rodger grew up in the Seattle area and graduated from Tyee High School, where he starred on the basketball team. After high school Rodger attended Western Washington University and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. While at Western, he met his wife of 25 years, Casey Ann Payne. After graduation, Rodger attended Willamette University’s College of Law and graduated in 1992 with his JD.

Upon graduation from law school, Rodger joined the law offices of Reinisch Mackenzie, P. C., in Portland, where he worked for over 20 years as a well-regarded workers’ compensation attorney. As a member of both the Oregon and Washington Bar Associations, Rodger tirelessly represented clients in both states. As a result of his hard work and determination, Rodger became a partner with the firm in 2000 and a member of the firm’s Executive Committee in 2007. Rodger also served on the Executive Committee of the Workers’ Compensation Section of the Oregon State Bar, holding numerous positions, including Chairman in 2004.

Casey and Rodger were married on July 25, 1987 in Auburn, WA, and moved to Salem, OR, where Rodger attended law school. In 2001, the couple moved to West Linn, OR, where they raised their daughter, Haley, age 21, and two sons, Blake, 17, and Alex, 15. As a member of the West Linn community, Rodger coached youth basketball and baseball and supported the activities of all three of his children.

Rodger was an avid runner, most recently finishing in the top ten of his age group in the Hop Hop Half Marathon in Portland in March 2013. He also enjoyed biking and other outdoor activities and had a talent for home improvement projects.

Known for his calm and down-to-earth demeanor as well as his dry sense of humor, Rodger was well-respected in both his professional and personal communities. Along with his wife and three children, Rodger is survived by his mother, Nell Hepburn, and sister, Carole D. Hepburn. He will be missed, not only by the family he leaves behind, but also the West Linn community, his friends and co-workers at Reinisch Mackenzie and the clients he served.

A service was held at the McLean House in West Linn on July 19th and was attended by approximately 500 of Rodger’s family, friends and associates. In lieu of flowers and in honor of Rodger’s passion for sports, the family requests that donations be made to the Rodger Hepburn Athletic Fund, 2620 Surrey Lane, West Linn, OR 97068.
