George Edward Schafer of Nehalem died Sept. 17, 2013. He was 69.

Mr. Schafer was born in Portland to Emanuel and Emma (Hocken) Schafer. He graduated from Parkrose High School.

He was a truck driver by profession and worked for Portland Rendering. He was a member of Teamsters Local 223 and the Estacada Moose Lodge. Mr. Schafer was an avid gold prospector, loved the outdoors and fishing, hunting and camping.

Survivors include his son, Michael Schafer of Albany; daughter, Angela Rose Schafer of Toledo, Ore.; and brother, Robert Shafer of Portland.

A memorial service will be held at the Tillamook Moose Lodge, 1706 Second St., Tillamook on Oct. 5 at 2 p.m.

Interment will be at Nahalem American Legion Cemetery.
