Melvin 'Mel' G. Ness

May 3, 1934 to Nov. 15, 2013 -


Melvin “Mel” Ness died Nov. 15, 2013. He was 79.

Mr. Ness moved to the Portland area in 1955, after serving in the U.S. Army, where he met his wife of 57 years, Marlene.

He was a carpenter by trade and built pickup canopies and campers and, over time, built first-class motorhomes. Over the years his business grew and the production line employed more than 150 people. Mr. Ness enjoyed hunting, fishing and flying his private plane. He was a member of the Clackamas Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of East Portland.

Survivors include his wife, Marlene; daughters, Lorrie, Dana, Lisa and Denise; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A celebration of life will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Museum of the Oregon Territory, 211 Tumwater Drive in Oregon City.

Remembrances may be made to the American Diabetes Association, the Foundation of the Rotary Club of East Portland or the Royal Rosarian Foundation.
