Sandy resident Evelyn Ruth Proctor died on May 9th 2017. A funeral service will be held at Sandy Funeral Home on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Private burial will follow at Sandy Ridge Cemetery.
Evelyn Ruth McDonald was born September 5th, 1940 to Ray and Ora McDonald in Hood River, Oregon
She was a member of a family of four girls and three boys that grew up in several central Oregon farming communities.
The family moved to Sandy in 1956 and Evelyn graduated from Sandy High School in 1958.
November of 1960 Evelyn married Willie Proctor, also a 1958 Sandy graduate. Upon Willie's discharge from the U.S. Navy they made their lifelong home in Sandy and started a family.
Evelyn had a gift of connecting with people. It became apparent when she started driving school bus in the early 70's. She quickly knew all the kids by names as well as their parents. She drove anything the school district had in the fleet and loved to "chain-up" and drive in the snow.
In the late 70's she went back to school to become a hair stylist. Again it was about the connecting with the people, the tasks of the craft were just the vehicle.
Throughout her life there were the church functions, kids sports events and school activities. Laced into that were the farm chores. She always had a tractor, which she loved to operate, and numerous animals, plants and flowers.
All of this required transportation, and for that she always had a pickup. The pickup had only two requirements, it had to haul and it had to haul fast.
As Grandchildren made the scene they became her passion. They all became educated on Grandma's "ways and opinions". They also learned the meaning of chores. As natural as ducklings to water they all drive fast.
Surviving are her Daughter Denise Copher (Rob) of Sandy. Sons Royal Proctor (Julie) of Boring and Floyd Proctor of Sandy. Sisters Loretta Hoard of Lostine, Dolores Morrison (Wayne) of Sandy and Donna McDonald of Sandy, Brothers Gary McDonald of Metolius and Richard McDonald of Irrigon. Grandchildren, Brianna Proctor, Katelyn Leathers (Mark), Coy Copher, Yolande Proctor-Sweeny (Kirk), Angela Proctor, Dakota Proctor and 5 Great-Grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her Husband Willie, Brother Larry, Grandson Billy Proctor.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Mt. Hood Hospice.
