Marist bounces Putnam from 5A girls tourney, 62-39

The Spartans of Eugene closed the first quarter on an 18-6 run to take charge of Thursday morning's Class 5A consolation game, ending Putnam's season at 18-9.

CORVALLIS -- Marist Catholic's Lauren Eagen scored 14 points to lead three players in double figures, pacing the Spartans to a 62-39 victory over Putnam in Thursday morning's OSAA Class 5A girls' basketball consolation game at Gill Coliseum.

Maggie BatzEmma McKenney finished with 13 points and four assists, and Madison Ficek added 10 points to help lift Marist (20-6) into Friday's fourth-place game against Crater.

Maggie Batz led Putnam with 12 points and Haley Brandel added 11 points and seven rebounds for the Kingsmen, who were coming off Wednesday's 62-25 quarterfinal loss to La Salle Prep.
