Sept. 14

You are your best friend

Netherfriends is Chicago’s Shawn Rosenblatt, who uses a keyboard, sampler, drum pad and guitar to create loops and layers of sound that veer from pop accessibility to psychedelic journeying. He also likes to dance like James Brown on occasion, and has been backed by a rotating cast of members. He’s clearly not sane, and is totally shameless and completely enjoyable.

Juno What?! Netherfriends, 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14, Mississippi Studios, 3939 N. Mississippi St. $13 in advance, $15 day of show. Info: 503.288-3895,

Sept. 15

by: COURTESY OF MATTHEW RODGERS - Anthrax brings its 'thrashfest extravaganza' to the Rose City on Sept. 15, co-headlining the Roseland Theatre with Testament.

Take a powder

What can you write about Anthrax that hasn’t been written? FOOL! You can NEVER stop writing about Anthrax! These veritable gods of thrash/speed metal, who also bridged the gap with rap, are touring with Testament, and feature a pretty fan-friendly lineup of Joey Belladonna on vocals, Charlie Benante on drums, Frank Bello on bass, and Rob Caggiano and Scott Ian on guitars. Their last album, “Worship Music,” got about as much praise and sales as a metal band could ask for before the apocalypse happens.

Anthrax, Testament, Death Angel, 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, Roseland Theater, 8 N.W. Sixth Ave. $40, $25. All ages. Info: 503-224-8499,
