Bits&Pieces

Blancanieves

The 36th Portland International Film Festival is coming up, and it’s been announced that “Blancanieves” has been named as the new opening screening at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7 at Newmark Theatre.

The original opening film, “The Sapphires,” has been pushed back to Feb. 8 and Feb. 10.

“Blancanieves” has been submitted by Spain for an Academy Award in Best Foreign Film. It’s a silent-set reworking of the Brothers Grimm fairytale “Snow White,” offset by punchy Flamenco rhythms and full of imagination.

The complete set of films for PIFF, produced by Northwest Film Center, will be announced Thursday, Jan. 24. For complete info, go to www.nwfilm.org.
