The Monkees are going on tour, and they’ll stop in Portland at Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall on Aug. 18. It’s “A Midsummer’s Night With The Monkees,” with Michael Nesmith, Mickey Dolenz and Peter Tork coming back for another round of shows, by popular demand. Last year’s tour was the first with Nesmith since he left the group in 1970 and paid tribute to the late Davy Jones. Tickets, which go on sale May 3, range from $39.50 to $99.50 and can be purchased at the Portland Center for the Performing Arts box office and

Empowering women

Keri Murphy, a native Portlander who runs Inspired Living motivational company in Los Angeles, has joined forces with the California Women’s Conference and organized the Oregon Women’s Conference, starting at 8 a.m. and going all day Thursday, May 9, at the Portland Art Museum, 1219 S.W. Park Ave. Tickets are $49, $99 VIP (info: Speakers, entertainers, panel discussions, networking and exhibits are part of the conference; it’s designed to benefit attendees from all walks of life.

Kids cooking?

It’s never too early to start, and the Portland Farmers Market will partner with the Art Institute of Portland for Kids Cook at the Market classes for young chefs in training. Kids meet local farmers and gain first-hand knowledge preparing ingredients purchased fresh from the market. The classes kick off with a free preview class 8:30 a.m. May 18, and continue each Saturday (except July 6) through Aug. 24.
