Six groups receive funding for artistic programs

The Beaverton Arts Commission last week announced six grant recipients of the organization’s Community Grant Program.

The new program is funded by the nonprofit Beaverton Arts and Culture Foundation.

The commission offered two levels of grants of up to $500 or up to $1,000. A total of $3,000 was awarded to six organizations.

The programs that received grants include:

  • Music in Small Space’s Venerable Showers of Beauty Gamelan Orchestra Concert, which will be held Nov. 9 at 2 p.m. in the Beaverton City Library Auditorium ($700).

  • ISing Choir’s “Blue Plate Special” Holiday Rhythm and Blues Concerts, which are on tap Dec. 6 and 7 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. in Bethel Congregational United Church of Christ ($600).

  • Beaverton Civic Theatre for marketing assistance for its 2014 season ($600).

  • Masque Alfresco’s 2013 Summer Park Tour of “Moliere’s Lovers Quarrels,” which is set for Saturdays and Sundays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 10, 11, 17 and 18 in parks around town ($500).

  • Jayanthi Raman’s “Sign Mudras,” Indian dance and sign language program, offered this fall at the Beaverton Community Center ($300).

  • Painted Sky Northstar Dance Company’s annual showcase on Aug. 2 in Beaverton City Park prior to Flicks by the Fountain ($300).
