Several sites in the community were featured in a commercial shot Sept. 28-29.

He and cinematographer Sean Brown founded their Portland-based Three Point 1Four Productions a year ago.

The city of Canby helped make the project a smooth one, he said.

“The city and Renate (city development director Renate Mengelberg), have been great working with us, Mead said.

“I’m really happy with the city and the film production policy they have developed. It makes it easy for film production companies to come into town and film,” he said.

Mengelberg walked them through the process, getting a business license, arranging production insurance and paying various costs for using each facility, he said.

“The city for me has some really great filming locations that are hidden from the rest of the Metro Area,” Mead said.

“I’m hoping we can put a spotlight on Canby and draw other production companies to town.”

And film companies can bring business with them. His production company hired Pudding River Chocolates & Wine Bar to cater the project.

They rolled into town with a three-ton grip truck and a 15-member production crew. Many members of the crew have also worked on the Grimm TV series, which is filmed in Portland.

Heavy winds and rain washed out their plans to shoot a camp scene in Community Park Saturday.

“It was too windy and dangerous,” Mead said.

They went instead with Plan B and retreated indoors to shoot a scene inside Canby Christian Church.

They were back Sunday morning, filming inside Canby High School. Sunday afternoon, they shot a scene inside a home in the Willow Creek area.

They try to leave a location as neat as they found it, Mead said.

“The school called to make sure we had been there,” he said. “We left it exactly as it was. That’s what we want to do.

“We want film production companies to have that reputation so people are comfortable with them coming into town and using facilities.”
