COURTESY OF DRC 3 - Trio DRC 3 plays Secret Society Ballroom, May 9, promoting album 3000 with its harmonies and hooks.

Three peace

Portland rock ‘n’ rollers The DRC 3 are D. Rives Curtright on guitar and vocals, Kyle E. Huth on drums, and Andrew Foster on bass. The trio, with roots in such bands as The Goddamn Gentlemen, Mean Jeans, Power of County and Suicide Notes, marks the release of its second album, “3000,” with this show. DRC 3 likes harmonies, hooks and not much else, keeping their musical wanderings firmly within the rootsy realm that such bands as Dead Moon, The Sadies and The Wipers wander. “We will not go platinum or gold, won’t even come close,” Curtright says, noting the band’s music was composed with an ear toward rock-ability as opposed to marketability. “We’re not that kind of band. Thank God.”

DRC 3, Freddy Trujillo, Haymaker, 9 p.m. Saturday, May 9, Secret Society Ballroom, 116 N.E. Russell St. $7. Info: 503-493-3600, www.secretsociety.net.

For sale or to let

It’s been nearly a decade since indie pop collective The Rentals played our fair city, so you might want to catch them now rather than wait another 10 years. Their 2014 album, “Lost In Alphaville,” got rave reviews from all the right mags, probably because bandleader Matt Sharp enlisted members of The Black Keys, Lucuis, Ozma and The Section Quartet to play on it. Sharp’s Portland show will feature Shawn Glassford of Starf**ker on bass and synthesizers, Lizzy Ellison and Patti King of Radiation City on vocals and synthesizers, along with Ozma’s Ryen Slegr on guitar, Ted Gowans of Tegan & Sara on guitar, and Jared Shavelson on drums to back his deadpan vocals while he conducts the onstage analog synth madness. Mexico City’s New Wavey Rey Pila will release their sophomore album, “The Future Sugar,” this summer and join the bill.

The Rentals, Radiation City, Rey Pila, 7 p.m. Sunday, May 10, Hawthorne Theatre, $15 in advance, $18 day of show. 21 and older. Info: 503-233-7100, www.hawthornetheatre.com.
