'Thrill the World'
The 11th annual mass dance event will celebrate the music of Michael Jackson and his hit "Thriller" on Oct. 28.
Upcoming practices are: 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29 and Oct. 6, at 2620 N.E. Fremont St.; 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, at the Q Center, 4115 N. Mississippi Ave.; and at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, at the Sellwood Community Center, 1436 S.E. Spokane St.

Jackpot Records, a Portland independent record store, is planning a 20th anniversary party and record sale, 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at the Eagles Lodge, 4904 S.E. Hawthorne Blvd.
All profits go to Planned Parenthood. Admission is $5.
There'll be live music by Kyle Craft, Ryan Solle of Builders & Butchers and more. Derek Smith, host of KMHD's "Morning Session," will serve as deejay from 3-5 p.m.
The Manhattan Short Film Festival takes place at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, and 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, at Clinton Street Theater.
The 20th annual event features 10 finaists from nine countries; there were more than 1,600 submissions from 75 countries.
The finalists: "Do No Harm" (New Zealand); "Behind" (Spain); "Fickle Bickle" (U.S.); "Hope Dies Last" (United Kingdom); "The Perfect Day" (Spain); "Just Go!" (Latvia); "Mare Nostrum" (Syria); "Viola, Franca" (Italy); "In a Nutshell" (Netherlands); "8 Minutes" (Georgia).
