'King and I,' 'On Your Feet!,' 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory' scheduled; 'On Your Feet!' tells the story of Emilio and Gloria Estefan

COURTESY: BROADWAY IN PORTLAND - Christie Prades plays Gloria Estefan in a touring 'On Your Feet!,' the story of Emilio and Gloria Estefan that features iconic music from the 1980s. It'll stage in Portland in October.It's a big season for the Broadway in Portland series, with "Hamilton" the main attraction, March 20-April 8.

But, because tours and plays are determined well ahead of performances, the 2018-19 season already is being announced.

It includes classics, such as "Aladdin," new shows, such as "On Your Feet!," and the musical fun of "School of Rock."

Subscription renewals are now on sale, as are new season subscriptions, and single tickets will go on sale at a later date.

Here's a quick look at each of the 2018-19 Broadway in Portland shows:

"On Your Feet!," Oct. 16-21, 2019

It's the story and music about the groundbreaking couple Emilio and Gloria Estefan, from their humble beginnings in Cuba to their cross-over musical success to almost losing everything. It's directed by Jerry Mitchell ("Kinky Boots") with choreography by Sergio Trujillo ("Jersey Boys").

The show will feature some of the most iconic songs from Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine.

"The King and I," Jan. 8-13, 2019

Rodgers & Hammerstein's classic, set in 1860s Bangkok, tells the story of the unconventional and tempestuous relationship that develops between the King of Siam and Anna Leonowens, a British schoolteacher whom the modernist king brings to Siam to teach his many wives and children.

It's based on the 2015 Tony Award-winning Lincoln Center Theater production.

"Come From Away," Feb. 26-March 3, 2019

Cultures clashed and nerves ran high, but uneasiness turned to trust when 7,000 airline passengers met the residents of a small Newfoundland town after their plane was diverted due to the events of 9/11. Their stories moved us all.

Christopher Ashley directs the new musical written by Irene Sankoff and David Hein.

"Aladdin," March 27-April 7, 2019

Discover a whole new world with Disney's hit Broadway musical, from the producer of "The Lion King." Filled with unforgettable beauty, magic and comedy, one lamp and three wishes make the possibilities infinite.

It features new music written by Alan Menken ("Newsies"), a Tony and Academy Award winner, with lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice.

"School of Rock," May 21-26, 2019

Based on the hit film, the hilarous musical follows Dewey Finn, a wannabe rock star posing as a substitute teacher who turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band.

There are 14 new songs from Andrew Lloyd Webber, plus all the originals, and a kids rock band will play live.

"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," Aug. 13-18, 2019

Roald Dahl's tale of Willy Wonka and his marvelous and mysterious chocolate factory includes great songs "Pure Imagination," "The Candy Man" and "I've Got a Golden Ticket."

It's a showstopper that follows Charlie Bucket, whose life goes from bland to wild as he and four other golden ticket winners embark on a journey into a world of true imagination. Get ready for the Oompa-Loompas.

"Wicked," July 10-28, 2019 (season option)

The Broadway sensation looks at what happened in the Land of Oz before Dorothy's arrival, when another young women with emerald-green skin meets a bubbly popular blonde and a rivalry ensues.

The untold true story of "Witches of Oz" transfixes audiences with its wildly inventive story.
