Timbers get draw with D.C. United

The Portland Timbers came from behind to forge a 1-1 draw at home Saturday night with D.C. United.

Bright Dike scored the equalizer for Portland in the 79th minute at Jeld-Wen Field, 19 minutes after Chris Pontius had scored for D.C. United on a penalty kick after a hand ball.

Portland finished with a 15-9 edge in shots on goal. Each team had seven corner kicks.

Timbers goalie Joe Bendik made one save, while Bill Hamid made four saves for D.C.

With one point for the tie, the Timbers have 30 points in 31 matches. Portland (7-15-9) has three games remaining, two on the road, where the Timbers are winless this season.

D.C. United, which is battling for a playoff spot in the MLS Eastern Conference, has 51 points with three matches to go. D.C. is in fourth place. The top five teams in each conference move on to the postseason. Houston is fifth in the East with 49 points after 31 games, and Columbus is sixth with 48 points, also through 31 games.
