Blazers trail all the way, fall to Kings


Lillard scores 20 points in road loss

SACRAMENTO — Sacramento led from start to finish in a 117-100 exhibition victory over the Trail Blazers Monday night at Power Balance Pavilion.

Marcus Thornton came off the bench to score 23 points on 8-for-11 shooting and DeMarcus Cousins collected 20 points and seven rebounds for the Kings.

Rookie point guard Damian Lillard scored 20 points for Portland, which fell to 1-2 in the preseason.

Sacramento shot superbly — .550 from the field, .500 from 3-point range and .783 from the foul line — as Portland employed a zone defense much of the way.

The Kings led 31-22 after one quarter and 62-42 at halftime.

Lillard got hot in the second half, and the Blazers closed to within 107-100 with two minutes to go, but the hosts scored the final 10 points to win going away.

NOTES — Former Oregon point guard Aaron Brooks scored 12 of his 16 points for Sacramento in the first half. ... Lillard was 7 for 14 from the field, including 4 of 8 from 3-point range. ... LaMarcus Aldridge scored 16 points, and Nicolas Batum added 14, but both shot poorly — Aldridge 5 for 15 and Batum 5 for 16 ... Joel Freeland made his first start for Portland at center, but the rookie played only 13 minutes, contributing two points and four rebounds. ... Seventeen players saw duty for the Blazers, who make their preseason home debut Wednesday night against Denver at the Rose Garden.
