Winterhawks claim eighth win in a row
Make it eight straight for the Portland Winterhawks.
The last two have come over the Victoria Royals, both by 6-2 scores.
Defenseman Troy Rutkowski had two goals in Saturday's victory before a Rose Garden crowd announced as 6,729.
Victoria scored at 7:26 and 10:08 of the first period to lead 2-0.
Keegan Iverson's goal at 12:37 made it 2-1, and Portland took the lead in the second period when Ty Rattie scored at 1:36 and Rutkowski struck while the Hawks were short-handed at 12:50.
Brendan Leipsic scored at 1:16 of the third period, Nicolas Petan scored at 5:42, and Rutkowski found the net on a power play at 10:08.
Mac Carruth made 16 saves to pick up the win, with Portland killing six of seven power-play chances by Victoria.
The Hawks raised their record to 12-3-1-0, while Victoria fell to 9-8-0-0.
The eight-game win streak is a Western Hockey League high this season.
Portland will try to make it nine when it plays host to Red Deer at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Rose Garden.
