Brendan Burke picked up his first career shutout, making 18 saves as the Portland Winterhawks beat the Vancouver Giants 3-0 Wednesday night at the Rose Garden.

Ty Rattie scored at 12:51 of the first period to give Portland a 1-0 lead. Nic Petan's goal at 16:03 of the second period made the score 2-0. Brendan Leipsic assisted on the two scores.

Petan scored again into an empty net with 45 seconds left.

Portland finished with 42 shots before the announced crowd of 5,395.

Vancouver was 0 for 1 on the power play; Portland was 0 for 3.

The Hawks improved to 18-4-1-0, while the Giants fell to 7-16-0-0.

Next up for Portland is the 3 p.m. Friday "Daylight Classic" at Memorial Coliseum, with the curtains open as the Hawks face the Kootenay Ice.
