Winterhawks hold off Everett 3-2
EVERETT, Wash. Â The Portland Winterhawks stretched their latest Western Hockey League winning streak to five with a 3-2 victory Sunday night at Everett.
Portland improved to 28-5-1-0, while the Silvertips slipped to 13-22-0-2.
Portland took a 2-0 lead on goals by Troy Rutkowski (4:29 into the game) and Nicolas Petan (7:34 into the second period). Petan has 22 goals this season; Rutkowski has eight.
Everett responded with a goal at 9:15 of the second frame before 3,937 at Comcast Arena.
Keegan Iverson scored for the Hawks at 12:55 of the third period. It was his fourth goal of the season.
Everett answered at 16:01, but Portland goaltender Mac Carruth blanked the Silvertips the rest of the way.
Carruth finished with 30 saves.
The Hawks had 31 shots, and on power plays, both teams were 0 for 4.
The Winterhawks have one more game before the Christmas break. They will play at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Spokane.
