Five Hawks score a goal; Portland wins 5-3 at Seattle
KENT, Wash. Five Winterhawks scored a goal Friday as Portland won 5-3 at Seattle.
Brendan Burke got the win, making 23 saves, with Portland going 3 for 3 on the penalty kill.
Three of the Hawks' goals came on the power play Portland had 10 opportunities and one of the others was the 34th goal of the season by Brendan Leipsic, which gave the visitors a 1-0 lead 6:28 into the game.
Oliver Bjorkstrand's goal pulled Portland into a 2-2 tie late in the first period, and defenseman Shaun MacPherson put the Winterhawks in front 3-2 with his first career goal at 6:55 of the middle period.
Ty Rattie's power-play goal at 17:55 made the score 4-2, and Nic Petan's 36th goal of the season, at 10:52 of the third period and with the man advantage, gave the Hawks a 5-2 edge.
Seattle scored at 18:17.
The Thunderbirds fell to 19-29-3-1.
Portland, 42-7-1-2, will play at 7 p.m. Saturday against Spokane at Memorial Coliseum.
