Rattie's four goals ignite Hawks to 8-3 road win
VANCOUVER, British Columbia Ty Rattie put four shots in the back of the net Monday afternoon to spark the Portland Winterhawks over the Vancouver Giants 8-3.
It was Rattie's second four-goal game this season; the other came Oct. 13 at Swift Current.
Vancouver scored the opening goal nine minutes into the game, but Portland struck four times to lead 4-1 by the end of the first period.
Rattie's third goal gave the Hawks a 7-3 lead at 4:06 of the third period, and his final goal came at the 7:41 mark.
Rattie is fourth in the Western Hockey League in scoring. Teammates Brendan Leipsic and Nic Petan are 1-2, in that order, as Leipsic took the lead on the strength of his goal and three assists, which gave him 101 points. Petan had two assists and has 100 points.
Defenseman Seth Jones had three assists, giving him 45 points this season and moving him into a tie for the scoring lead among WHL rookies.
Brendan Burke earned the win, stopping 35 shots.
The Winterhawks (46-8-1-2) lead Edmonton by eight points in the battle for best regular-season record in the league. Portland is nine points ahead of its closest rival in the Western Conference, Kelowna.
The Hawks' next game is Friday at Memorial Coliseum. Portland will play Tri-City at 7 p.m.
