Silvertips win late, 4-2, at Everett
EVERETT, Wash. The Portland Winterhawks outshot the Everett Silvertips 45-25 Saturday night but lost 4-2.
The game was tied until the Silvertips scored a power-play goal with 2:03 remaining. Everett added to the margin with 13 seconds left on a shot that found an empty net.
Ty Rattie scored both Winterhawk goals, giving him 42 this season. The first came on a penalty shot midway through the opening period. The other tied the score at 2-2 on a power play at 13:09 of the second period.
Mac Carruth took the loss in goal, with Portland conceding two power-play goal in five chances by Everett, which drew an announced crowd of 6,889 at Comcast Arena.
The Hawks fell to 51-12-1-2, but still lead the Western Hockey League with 105 points, with six games to play. Kelowna is second in the Western Conference with 96 points and seven games to go. Edmonton leads the Eastern Conference with 97 points and six games on its schedule.
Everett improved to 23-37-1-4 and has 51 points. The Silvertips are eighth in the West and would open the WHL playoffs at Portland on March 22, if both teams stay in the same positions. Everett trails Seattle by one point and has seven games to play, while Seattle has six games remaining.
Everett will play at Portland at 7 p.m. Tuesday, in Memorial Coliseum.
